Where to go from Oščadnica

Oščadnica and its surroundings offer sport, culture and relaxation in nature. Reception will advise you on routes and trips.

The guesthouse stands in Oščadnica, in the Slovak–Polish borderland below the Veľká Rača massif. The nearest major destination is the Snowparadise Veľká Rača resort on Dedovka, about 6 km (10 minutes by car) from the guesthouse. More ideas are around Kysuce – choose by season, weather or who you are travelling with.

Winter

Skiing around Oščadnica

Snowparadise Veľká Rača has ski slopes in three connected valleys; smaller areas are in the centre of Oščadnica and in Skalité. The bobsleigh track runs in winter too, weather permitting. The start of the 2026/27 winter season is not yet confirmed – please check with the operators.

The ski slopes run through three connected valleys – Dedovka, Marguška and Lalíky. For the youngest there is a children’s ski kindergarten in Dedovka.

Summer

Dedovka, hiking and cycle routes

The cable car takes you up to Dedovka, to the bobsleigh track, bike park and lookout tower; hiking trails and cycle routes lead around it. Parking at the resort is free and there is a bus stop at the valley station. Summer operation changes by month – you will find the current days and hours with the operator.

The four-seat cable car (1,200 m) takes you up to Dedovka (934 m a.s.l.), to the bobsleigh track, bike park and lookout tower. You can take a bicycle, a dog (according to the transport rules) or a pram on it.

The track is 1,800 m long (including a 1,300 m run and a 500 m lift), with 15 bends and 12 jumps; you ride in two-seat carts at up to 40 km/h. It operates in summer and winter in favourable weather.

Five marked trails with a total length of 10.6 km – from easy (Family and Mountain) to demanding (Enduro, Downhill Pro). Cyclists under 15 may ride only with a parent; a helmet, gloves and protectors are compulsory.

A 16 m high viewing tower on Dedovka, at an altitude of 934 m. Admission is free and the tower is open all year; from the valley station you can reach it by cable car or on foot in about 35 minutes.

Veľká Rača (1,236 m a.s.l.) lies on the state border with Poland. The green trail from the Dedovka valley station is about 7 km long (around 4 hours, about 1 h 30 min with the cable car); the red trail from the border summit Kykula is 7.6 km (around 2 h 10 min).

Cycle routes and other experiences

The 60 km route leads from Čadca via Skalité, Oščadnica, Krásno nad Kysucou and Stará Bystrica to Vychylovka, on asphalt and on roads with little traffic.

Oščadnica, Nižný koniec (near the primary school)

A ride in an armoured BVP-2 vehicle off-road (4 km, about 30 minutes), as a group of 1 to 15 people or individually. It is provided by a private operator; the date is booked in advance by phone.

Dedovka has attractions for the youngest, in Krásno children can see a replica of a mammoth, and Čadca has a summer swimming pool.

Heritage, gallery and museums

Oščadnica has a manor house with the Kysuce Gallery, the Oščadnica Calvary and chapels scattered through its hamlets. The Kysuce Museum runs exhibitions in Čadca, Krásno nad Kysucou, Radoľa and Vychylovka.

The Calvary in the Sivova grapa locality was built from 1946; the little church at the top was completed and blessed in 1948. The centre of the village has the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, and there are chapels in the hamlets.

A chapel from 1948 that also serves as a bell tower; next to it is a well with spring water. A yellow trail no. 8541 leads to it from Dedovka (2.6 km, 40–50 minutes).
